Meta's Facebook & Instagram Monetization for Nigerians

Content creators in Nigeria can now make (earn) money from ad revenue on Facebook and Instagram, as the country has become eligible. This change, announced by Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, on Thursday, June 27, allows Nigerian content creators to participate in monetization without needing a page management based in an eligible country, which was previously required for monetization is ineligible country like Nigeria.

In 2023, content creators in the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Korea led the way with "Ads on Reels," a Meta's beta performance-based monetization program. This development determines payouts based on the viewership of reels, setting a new standard for content monetization.

Following this development, creators in Nigeria can now monetize their content and earn money through Facebook in-stream ads, live ads, ads on reels, bonuses, and subscriptions. This move follows an earlier announcement by Meta in March during a visit to Nigeria by Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta.

In March, Meta stated, "Monetization won't be limited to just Instagram. Nigerian creators eligible to use our monetization products will also be able to monetize on Facebook." They emphasized their commitment by adding, "We're working diligently to make these monetization features available for Nigerian creators in June, and our team is dedicated to a swift rollout."
