Two weeks ago, it's reported by Ledgerbloc that Lagos State Government promised to sanction Uber if its refuses to comply with 2020 agreement; a deal between ride-hailing companies and the Lagos state government to share access to user realtime data.
Now, a source familiar with the matter has disclosed that Uber is still hesitating to adhere to the 2020 agreement while its major competitor in the city has complied with the agreement.
However, Lagos State Government is still standing on it words that the request to riders real-time data is for the purpose of planning, revenue and security. The authority further cited that its wants to be able to identify both drivers and riders and protect users in cases of emergency.
According to source familiar with the as mentioned earlier, the person said that if Uber give Lagos State Government access to the requesting data, it will open users up to surveillance and can land the company in Court.
