The Nigerian Student Loan, popular known as "Tinubu Student Loan," is expected to launch on March 14, 2024, but has been postponed indefinitely by the office of the president administration - making it the second time the Loan's postponed.
The reason for the postponement this time is said, by the executive secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) - Akintunde Sawyer, to be some amendments that are being made around the launch of the Loan scheme. He added that no "specific date" is promise now, as Tinubu administration is currently taking the time to ensure all stakeholders are on the same page. This will prevent any surprises and allow for a successful, well-rounded, and long-lasting launch.
Recall that this Loan scheme was first promised to be launched on February 21, 2024 before it's postponed to March 14, 2024. Now, federal government is postponing it and this time, the postponement is indefinitely.
Less privilege students are awaiting the Loan to arrives because the Loan, as promised, will be no human or physical contact in accessing; application and disbursement will be automated. However, necessary documents will be required. Furthermore, the Student Loan is also promised to expanded to students interested in skill-development programmes.
