Uber Sanction in Lagos: Everything You Need To Know

Uber has said "it's not breaching Lagos data sharing deal" after the state government threatens sanctions.
Uber Sanction in Lagos

The Lagos State Government requested Uber to give her access to real-time user data via API. Due to non-compliance, the state Govt promises sanction and Uber immidiately pushed back against a suggestion that it failed to honour the Govt's request.

This request is part of 2020 Agreement for all ride-hailing services operating in the state to share backend data with the Lagos State Government. According to Oluwaseun Osiyemi - the commissioner for transportation, Lagos State, getting access to user's trip information was for the "well-being of all Lagos State residents."

He added that sanctioning the ride-hailing company in the state is "imperative" to force the company to comply "with the Data Sharing Agreement and API integration deal."

On the other hand, Uber has denied the fact that it's not complying with Lagos State's regulatory requirements. A spokeman for the company told TechCabal that Uber is always in compliance with all nation's regulatory requirements and Nigeria is no exception.
